We’re All About the Bagels

Who doesn’t love bagels? In fact, if you don’t love bagels, why are you on this page reading a blog post by a bagel business about bagels? Have we said the word ‘bagels’ enough yet? It should be enough to make those that don’t like them disappear. Because if you don’t like them, then that’s your preference – but we’re not going to beg you to like them.

We’re not trying to cause a feud between bagel lovers and haters here. What we ARE trying to do is tell you that if you DO love them, and that’s why you’re a follower of Bagel or Beigel, then that’s enough for us! We won’t pressure you to share our posts or vote for us in a random award that we’re taking part in. Our bagels really don’t need awards – we know they’re good enough, and we know that because our lovely customers keep coming back to satisfy their bagel cravings with us time and time again.

You might have seen these so-called awards pop up on your Facebook feed from time to time. There seems to be a new one out every year – the latest one we’ve spotted rhymes with ‘ruddy Gepettos’. However, the awards may change each year, but the rules don’t. These awards often require food businesses to ask their customers to vote for them, usually by entering their personal details on a website and ticking a box to ‘show their support’ to their favourite restaurant, cafe, food van or takeaway service. You could call it showing support; we could call it a popularity contest.

Of course, it’s okay to try to help out local businesses. But these awards can sometimes distract business owners from doing their work. If we were on here asking you to vote for us, checking the award website every five minutes to see how we were performing, and promoting the award itself, we’d have less time to think up new recipes, get out on delivery runs and make our bagels!

We could just make up an award to plaster all over our website instead (do you really look at them to see if they’re legit?), but we’re not interested in deceiving you. Instead, we just want to provide you with delicious bagels. That’s all we’re about.

Everything bagel with seeds

And talking about bagels (again), it’s time for our Bagel of the Month. This is one that so many of our customers have requested in recent months: the Everything Bagel. Its name comes from the combination of ingredients – everything you would want in a savoury bagel. It features poppy seeds, black sesame seeds, garlic, onion and sea salt, and it goes perfectly with a bit of salt beef and pickles, or some smoked salmon and cream cheese.

This combo – it may not match the original exactly (in fact, who knows what that consisted of?!) – originates from the traditional no-waste concept of bakeries. A baker was putting a final batch in the oven, and collected up all the seeds that had fallen off previous batches to sprinkle on top. The result? A selection of simple-but-tasty bagels without the waste.
