Canadian Butter Tarts

Butter tarts are small Canadian pastries. The taste is similar to pecan pie but without the pecans. with a sweet treacle-like filling. The filling can be firm or runny, and often have raisins or nuts added.

We like to always add a twist on recipes so we made the tart with a shortbread pastry.

Canadians will argue if the butter tart should be runny or firm inside and raisins or no raisins.

We have gone down the runny road and definitely left out the raisins.
