Our March bagel flavour - Blueberry Cinnamon

Unlike February being the month of love and Easter taking place in April, it’s hard to categorise March into a flavour. It’s really the month that we all want to get on with so that lockdown can ease and spring can arrive - but you can’t really make that into a theme for a bagel.

So instead, we’ve gone for a bit of nostalgia from owner Avi’s film collection. Aside from his favourites - Love, Actually; The Notebook; and Legally Blonde - he does have a few good flicks on his shelves. Does Violet Beauregarde ring any bells? She’s the competitive, bad mannered little girl who holds the record for gum chewing in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (or Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, depending on how old you are). Her satisfying demise sees her disobey Willy Wonka’s advice to NOT eat the chewing gum that tastes like a three-course dinner, and transform into a giant blueberry.

We’ve created a bagel inspired by this hilarious moment in film. There’s no chewing gum involved (a chewing gum bagel sounds awful), but there are blueberries and cinnamon! If you’re a fan of sweet bagels, fruit bread or blueberry muffins, this bagel is for you! The delicious combination brings out the best in both flavours, from the fruity sweetness of the blueberries to the warming spice of the cinnamon.

It makes a really sweet treat when smothered with chocolate spread, thinly coated in honey or even combined with a little bit of butter. Why not tuck in while sipping on your favourite fruity beverage - or a smoothie, for those who are still dedicated to their 2021 health resolutions?

And talking about health resolutions, this bagel counts as one of your five-a-day! We could all eat more fruit and veg, but if you’re not so keen on eating them as they are, the next best thing is to put them in a bagel - because we all love bagels, don’t we?

Luckily, we can guarantee that this bagel won’t turn you into a giant blueberry (imagine rolling into A&E looking like that), and you don’t have to be a gum chewing champion to give it a go. In fact, we recommend sticking your gum behind your ear and staving off Wonka Bars until your bagels arrive, so that you can get the full flavour experience.

We also have to state that there are no golden tickets to be won, and no tour of the Bagel or Beigel factory (although, it’s not quite a factory, rather a trendy kitchen covered in batter and bagel chips). There are, however, many similarities between Willy Wonka and Avi, a sweet tooth, bizarre antics and wacky hair being just three of them. We can attest that Wonka also approves of March’s bagel flavour, and that he never did find out if Violet returned to her normal colour.
