September’s Bagel of the Month

Have you ever bathed in garlic? For legal reasons, we have to advise against it. But the reason we ask is that Poppy, CEO of Bagel or Beigel, loves garlic so much that she’s joked about bathing in it. It’s just one of those ingredients that she never skimps on, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner. No wonder Avi bought extra toothpaste and breath mints for her first day back at school. The smell might be great for keeping vampires away, but terrible if you’re trying to make friends.

One ingredient that we wouldn’t bathe in, however, is chilli. Yet, this is another building block for a whole host of great dishes that the Bagel or Beigel family could eat on a daily basis - especially Avi. He once took part in a chilli pepper eating contest back in Canada. He made it all the way past the Ghost Pepper (1,041,427 Scoville heat units) and had reached the final round. Sweating profusely and about to reach for a shot of milk, he turned around to find that his competitor - a seven-foot tall, 300 pound lumberjack, had fainted. It turns out that the peppers made him hallucinate a sighting of a giant chilli pepper-eating moose rampaging through the food festival, headed straight for him. Not one to waste food, Avi sank the last chilli pepper - the famed Carolina Reaper (2,200,000 Scoville heat units) - and walked away with a prize of $50 and a moose skin rug, which he gifted to his competitor.

You might have guessed that these two ingredients have something to do with our next bagel of the month, and you’re right! We’ve taken the favourite flavours of Avi and Poppy, and combined them to make a bagel taste sensation. It might not blow your head off like a Carolina Reaper (in fact, it’s more warming than spicy), but it’ll sure give a kick with every bite. And that’s just the chilli flakes! The garlic is just enough to ward off Dracula, without scaring your partner out of a smooch (ask us if you want to add extra, just in case a smooch isn’t on the cards…).

chilli and garlic bagel

But there’s one ingredient that is missing from this killer combination. A chilli and garlic bagel would not be complete without some succulent Monterey Jack cheese! With its buttery, creamy taste and oozy texture, it’s perfect for pairing with stronger ingredients to bring out their flavours, which is why it’s popular with Mexican food, where you’ll also find lots of chilli and garlic.

Once again, cheese is another mainstay in the Bagel or Beigel household. You could say that this bagel of the month is a combination of all of our favourite flavours and textures! If you love the sound of it, click here as soon as possible to secure your order.

As always, we’ve got a vegan version so that our plant-based friends can enjoy these delicious flavours too.

Don’t forget that we’ve got another open day coming up at our unit on 26th September! Last month’s open day was a massive success, with so many customers dropping by to enjoy our creations. We would love to see all of your faces again, plus some new ones if you fancy bringing a friend or two! See you there...
